[edit] Gladiator Population
Most of the members of the gladiator population come from several sources. Recruited, asked to join in for a certain monetary amount and rank consideration as well as guaranteed social status within the system. Punished, either for committing a crime or having a debt that cannot be satisfactorily paid back or negotiated for, all wages that are earned by the person usually garnished until the debt is repaid. Repayment of the debt does not guarantee release from the system. Released from Black Gazza, usually in efforts to make specialized programming or to reduce the prison's population in a profitable and ratings oriented goals. Success for these prisoners could easily mean placement within the gladiator program, either by exchange of a gladiator into the prisoner's former spot, or by direct placement within a team. Accepted, a person asks and is reviewed for entrance into the arena.
[edit] Gladiator Ranks
Ranks of the gladiators are determined by armor or collar color and follow in the following order, from lowest rank to highest.
| Pink | Newbies, Raw, Very Fresh. Most people in this class have barely held a weapon and have shown less than competency in standard combat tactics. Some scenarios with Pink Newbies can be mortal in order to cull the herd. Usually prove to be draining financially for any owner but are a needed element. This rank is not allowed to leave the arena without escort from a blue ranked gladiator or above. Usually on a leash. Most mortalities that occur from this is not from combat against others, but usually self inflicted or worse from the lack of proper knowledge on how to use the tools at hand. Team logo may be tattooed onto the gladiator at the team leader's discretion. |
| Purple | Survived for more than a few weeks at least.. People who show a small amount of talent in the discipline in entertaining. Safe from mortality situations as they pull in income at least equal to their upkeep. This rank is not allowed to leave the arena without escort from a blue ranked gladiator or above. Sometimes on a leash. Some people might notice their existance and may earn their actual name on a scoreboard rather than some token identification. Usually considered good enough to get full medical care and tattoo of the team logo is mandated at this time. |
| Red | Grunts of the field, able to make some savings typically based on their actions on the field. Shows competence in the basic skills needed to keep the crowds happy. Can afford the upkeep and can have savings, or, a treat every now and then. Particularly charismatic or flamboyant red ranked gladiators may have an action figure made of them. Allowed to leave the arena without escort but must live at the arena. The off-color or extremely flamboyant member of this group may have a appetizer, snack, food item, or drink named after them. |
| Blue | Half grunt, half leader. Usually under the direct command of a green ranked leader or higher. They are meant to execute and interpret the commands of their team superiors as well as assist in administrative tasks as commanded. They can afford to pay their rent and are allowed savings and enough money to have frequent treats and savings. Unless they are considered complete and utter crap or brown nosers, they usually earn an action figure at this point, sold at most stores. This rank is allowed to live off-campus unless special circumstances disallow. |
| Green | Considered Sergeants of the field. Shown to be team leaders and can run teams of lower ranked peons. This is where a gladiator shows true potential of having what it takes to be a combat thrall and doing what it takes to keep the ratings high. This elite class is still in the mortality-free zone with exception of promotion-guided tests and other special situations. This class makes a good paycheck and keeps the owners happy and with a good cash flow. Usually well known by all those on the outside. Only the truly ugly and hated do not get a action figure at this stage. The extremely charismic may end up with a minor road, a cafe, or a sandwich in a local diner named after them. This rank is actively encouraged to not live on campus but may maintain a residence there in case of late night games or team storage is needed. |
| Gray | This color is a dark gray. These are strong leaders of the arena. May have several green ranked gladiators in the team to handle or carry on orders, particularly since this class of gladiator faces challenges that are extremely elaborate, tricky, and sadistic. Mortality enters into these scenarios with extreme purposes. People reaching this rank are usually mandated a period of time to find or promote green ranked gladiators to take over if they should expire in the line of duty. Action figures, even for total jerks, are guaranteed (though magnifying glasses can be included with the action figures of detestable figures). Food items are frequently named after these people, as well as minor streets or a minor square of a city. |
| Black | Considered Arena masters. Mortality is cranked up to higher probabilities in contests involving only black ranked gladiators. May have no brown ranked members in their teams, but several green ranked. Popularity of these creatures are similar to rock stars; usually only the fact that they are not mobbed is the fact that they can be considered to be inhumane and evil, dark, twisted creatures who could snap at any second (as spun and manufactured by the arena's marketing team). Some people will be brave enough to ask for autographs while others give these gladiators wide birth on the street. Usually at this point, unless taxation soaks it up, these gladiators after a few months can easily buy their freedom or white rank -- provided they survive. Entrees are named after them, as well as restaurants, minor to average streets can be named after them. |
| White | Retired or should have been retired. Considered completely elite and masters of the sport. They have at this stage earned the rights to not bear a collar or other retention gear as salary and benefits are usually considered strong enough to keep working with the Arena. They are allowed extreme latitude as to what campaigns that the team and themselves can enter into. The salary easily outstrips many jobs that are available on Arpaio. Most of the people in this class end up as educators, masters of combative arts, and administrators of the Arena itself. These people usually earn at minimum a 100 foot statue somewhere in the city of Jalmas and may end up with buildings, city blocks, city squares, or major roadways named after them. |
[edit] Famous Gladiators
Kyro, a Reptillian Gladiator, is a well known Green ranked gladiator, extremely flamboyant and arrogant on the field with his team. He is known to be a harsh, mean, and sometimes cruel leader but he also does what is right for his team and does what it takes to make sure people are taken care of and get what they need. His cruelness usually is shown when he is annoyed or irritated at a team member for not living to the fullest of potentials that he knows they are capable of.
[edit] Gladiator Teams
Team Crimson Dervish -- Kyro's Gladiator Team, well known for having a high win ratio and a lot of chaos.
